Private fostering briefings – May & July 2024

Date: Thursday, 18th Apr 2024 | Category: General

Two private fostering briefings have been arranged to help support all professionals working with children across Portsmouth to understand more about these arrangements.  These will also help to identify and safeguard children and young people who are being privately fostered.

Private fostering is not mainstream fostering, but is often confused due to the similar titles. Put simply, private fostering is looking after someone else’s child. If the following criteria is met, then it is likely a child or young person is living in a private fostering arrangement:

  • A child or young person is under sixteen or eighteen if they have a diagnosed disability or learning difficulty.
  • A child or young person is living with an adult who does not have parental responsibility or is not a close family member (grandparent, aunt, uncle, sibling)
  • The arrangement has or is intended to last for twenty-eight days or longer.

 The next briefings are:

  • 01.05.2024 14:30pm
  • 10.07.2024 10:00am

To book onto one of these dates please email aimee.dennis@portsmouthcc.gov.uk. Aimee is also available to attend team meetings as required. If you think you have identified an arrangement or have a question, please call us on 02392 834071 and ask to speak to the connected persons team or email sharedmailbox.privatefostering@portsmouthcc.gov.uk.
